The 2011 Solar Car Challenge Race
at the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth
was July 18-21, 2011
The car’s front end “broke” on the second day of racing – a great opportunity for the EVT engineers to problem solve and get back on the track. With ingenuity and help from other teams, the STA EVT was back on the race course, finishing first in legs three and four of the race. The team finished just shy of first (339 vs. 334 laps and 508.5 vs. 501.0 miles) in the Class Division but learned many lessons about engineering in the process.
Team member Noveen Delaram ’11 won the Marks Award (presented to the solar car tem member displaying the true spirit of solar car racing), and the STA Team received the Award of Beauty for the car design.
The Solar Car Challenge was established in 1993 to help motivate students in science and engineering, and to increase alternative energy awareness. The Solar Education Program provides a safe environment for teams to display their solar cars. On alternating years, we share the fun of the world-famous Texas Motor Speedway or drive cross-country to share their projects with millions of people. http://www.winstonsolar.org/challenge/
