Saint Thomas Academy Crack Drill Squad

The Crack Drill Squad is a precision gun drill team that represents the Academy with performances at area events and Twin Cities Catholic schools. Formed in 1937, with the inspiration and leadership of Major Burton Hood, the team drills with authentic Springfield rifles. Since early in the 20th century, the Squad’s tradition of building team spirit through skilled execution of gun aerial maneuvers and matched marched formations has endured.

Named for the sounds and movements made by the guns as they are caught and tapped, the Crack Drill Squad is a a demonstration of the Academy’s discipline and esprit de corps. The Squad is comprised of ten seniors, five juniors and two sophomores.
