Military Co-Curricular Activities
The Saint Thomas Academy Rifle Team consists of the top marksmen in the school. Moderated by CW4 Paul Preblich, the Rifle Team competes in Minnesota State Junior Olympic, National Rifle Association (NRA), American Legion, and Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) matches, ranging anywhere from regional postal competitions to National Invitationals. The Rifle Team fires Crosman .177 cal air rifles as well as Kimber .22 caliber rifles. The season is from November to March. Practices for the .177 air rifles are Tuesday and Thursday, with occasional .22 caliber practices as necessary. See CW4 Preblich for details. All students, grades 6-12, are welcome to try out for the team. This team does have cuts as there is a limit to the size. Visit the team's page for more information.

Clay Target Team
Trap shooting is the fastest growing high school team sport in the state and has replaced hockey to take over the number four most popular team sport. The team consists of high school shooters as well as shooters from our Middle School. The Minnesota State High School Clay Target League (MSHSCTL) sanctions competitions and tournaments. The team competes against other teams in our conference at the South Saint Paul Rod and Gun Club and scores are submitted to the league electronically. The state league tournament is in mid-June in Alexandria, MN over a four-day period. Visit the team's page for more information.
Although the school was founded in 1885, the military program was not added until 1905. As of 2015, we are an independent military academy. Find out more about our history.
