Co-Curricular Athletics -
Highlights from the 2011-12 school year
The Cross Country team placed second in the conference. The Varsity team again attained the Gold Standard for Academic Excellence with a team GPA of 3.91.
The Soccer team finished the season with a record of 10-8-1; the team made it to the section semifinals.
The Football team was undefeated for the regular season (8-0) for the third year in a row and won the conference (the first time the team has been outright champs instead of sharing the title). The team was Section 3AAAA runners-up.
The Swimming and Diving team won the state True Team Meet, was conference and section champions. The team won (reclaimed) the Class A State title with a score of 330 points - 126 more points than the second place team.
The Hockey team finished the regular season with a 20-5 record and placed second in the conference. The team, seeded #1 in section 4A, won the section and advanced to the state tournament. Seeded #2 in Class A, the team repeated as state champions by beating #1 seed Hermantown.
The Alpine Ski team won the conference and placed fourth in the section.
The Wrestling team had a good season - five wrestlers individually finished in the top ten at the section meet. J. Tarum '15 placed second and will represent STA at the state tournament. T. Rascher '12 placed third; J. Maher '13 tied for sixth; M. Evanoff '13 placed fifth and L. Hauser '14 tied for sixth.
The Nordic Ski team placed fourth in the conference.
The Basketball team placed second in the conference (12-4); seeded #2 in Section 4AAA, the team ended the season as section runners-up with a record of 18-11.
The Golf team has won four matches.

B. LeMay '12 was third in the voting for the annual "Mr. Soccer" award and played in the Senior All-Star Soccer game.

Basketball
T. Sjoberg '12 was the Classic Suburban Boys Basketball Player of the Year and named to the All-Pioneer Press Basketball Team, honorable mention. He became the ninth ST(M)A basketball player to score more than 1,000 points in his high school career (1,295 total).
Swimming
At the state tournament, L. Johanns '12 won the 50 freestyle with an All-American time of 20.75 seconds and the 100 freestyle in 46.34 seconds. At the 18 and Under Nationals (March 20-25, 2012 in Orlando), Johanns placed 13th in the 50 free.
Golf
J. Maher '13 medaled on April 24, A. Commers '12 medaled on May 8, S. Sienko '14 medaled on May 11, and Z. Weier '14 medaled on May 15.
College Matriculation
L. Johanns ’12 signed a letter of intention to Division I Xavier University.
I. Hayes '12 signed a letter of intention to Division I University of Minnesota to play football.
P. Clancy '12 signed a letter of intention to Division I Dartmouth to play football.
