Why Saint Thomas Academy? Before attending Saint Thomas Academy, I'd been searching for something. As a 7th grader and not exactly sure of what that was; I walked through the front doors and immediately felt exactly what I had been looking for, the comfort of home. After graduating STA and returning from ski racing in Europe in 2004, our Athletic Director (Mr. Zahr) invited me to coach the Alpine Ski Team whenever I could find time in my busy racing schedule, as a way to give back to our program.
As I enter my 20th season with the Academy, our institution continues to provide me with the same feelings I'd experienced on my 1st day. My drive to mold and shape our young men is derived from the value of the 4 pillars that were instilled in me throughout my time walking the same halls that they are today.
A fun fact about yourself: My favorite past time is fly-fishing for steelhead, brown trout and salmon. I've tied my own flies and rods since I was very young and my dream trip is to fly-fish for trophy Arctic Char north of the Arctic Circle.
Family: I was blessed with 1 incredible daughter, Emmalin. An amazing student/athlete; she loves Math, Science, Softball, Volleyball, Alpine Skiing and Hunting/Fishing with me through each and every season! Watching her growth and success has absolutely been my proudest moments as a parent.
Purpose Statement: My goal is to focus first on the student athletes I'm entrusted with, to grow and develop them as young men and leaders instead of just improving them as athletes. My program embraces the morals, values and ethics to inspire and motivate our student athletes to positively change their lives and the lives of those around them; both on and off the race venue. The success of my athletes can be measured by the experiences, interactions, memories and the overall time spent with their team, that they'll remember for the rest of their lives.
I aim to leave a positive imprint that will forever be a part of each person's life that I've had the privilege of coaching.

Why Saint Thomas Academy? Marrying into a Vis/STA family, I was impressed with the stories of support and camaraderie my wife and brothers-in-law shared of their alumni experiences. Having just moved to Minnesota a few years back, Coach Nelson and the STA Alpine family welcomed me in with open arms with mutual respect and a lot of helping guidance for navigating my new state!
A fun fact about yourself: My other job is designing, building and testing hydrogen fuel cells for implementation in all sorts of vehicles.
Family: Wife Annie (a Vis grad) and a Goldendoodle named Ruggles

Why Saint Thomas Academy? Over the years I had trained over 300 Cadets and was always impressed with the way they carried themselves and how they talked about their school and the 'Brotherhood'.
The opportunity to bring my background in athletics and fitness to these young men and be a part of that Brotherhood was a perfect fit for me and my family.
A fun fact about yourself: Along with being an All-State athlete in 3 sports, I was a first chair trumpet player in high school.
Family: My wife Brianna, she graduated from Kansas where she played soccer for the Jayhawks. My daughters are Cianna and Louis and my son Vincent
Purpose Statement: Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up knowing it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve. It doesn't matter whether you're the lion or a gazelle, when the sun comes up, you'd better be running.
