Saint Thomas Academy Rifle Team Wins CMP State Championship, Advances to Nationals
MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn., Jan. 16, 2017 – The Saint Thomas Academy rifle team consisting of Seth Olson ’18, John Sotamba ’17, Riley Miller ’18, and Jack Kotok ’18 recently won the state championship in the Civilian Marksmanship Program. The team now advances to the national championship on March 29-31, held at Camp Perry, Ohio.
Additionally, Olson tied for the leading score in the state competition but placed second behind Ruby Pozorsky of the X-Men Team from Forest Lake, who shot two more bullseyes than Olson. Olson was recently ranked number 1 in the country by the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit.
The second Cadets rifle team of Kaleb Rutgers ’19 of Mendota Heights, Meg Hughes VIS ’18 of Saint Paul (Como Park), John Copeland ’19 of Edina and Kate Wohlberg VIS ’18 of West St. Paul, placed 6th overall in the CMP state competition.
Saint Thomas Academy is coached by CW4 Paul Preblich.
