Saint Thomas Academy Rifle Team Wins CMP State Championship, Advances to Regional Finals

MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn., Jan. 9, 2018 – The Saint Thomas Academy rifle team consisting of Seth Olson ’18, Riley Miller ’18, Jack Kotok ’18 and Kaleb Turgers ’19 recently won the state championship in the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) (box score). With the win, the team advances to the CMP regional championship to be held April 12-14 at Camp Perry, Ohio.

Additionally, Olson shot his second-highest-career score – 553 out of a possible 600 in the 3x20 competition. In the sporter category, he placed first overall and first in his age class.

Placing third in the state competition was the second Cadets’ rifle team of Peter Corniea '19, Jackson Marquardt '19, Max Ilinykh '20 and Michael Driscoll '21.

Later this month, the team will compete against the top teams in the country when it represents Minnesota at the 2018 U.S. Army Junior Open Air Rifle National Championship at Ft. Benning, Ga.

Saint Thomas Academy is coached by Chief Warrant Officer 4 Paul Preblich.
