VISTA Productions Receives Numerous Honors

from Spotlight Education for Production of The Spitfire Grill

 
MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn., [Dec. 22, 2016] – VISTA Productions’ has earned “critical acclaim” for its fall production, The Spitfire Grill, from Spotlight Education, an educational initiative of the Hennepin Theatre Trust. The musical put on by the combined fine arts program of Visitation School and Saint Thomas Academy was recognized as “outstanding” in the following categories:

  • Achievement in Musical Theatre
  • Overall Production
  • Overall Performance
  • Ensemble Performance
  • Vocal Performance by an Ensemble
  • Overall Technical Team
  • Technical Crew
  • A/V Board Operators

Additionally, the production received honorable mention recognition for Acting Performance by an Ensemble and the Costume Crew.

Individual Honors:
Several individual cast and crew members also received recognition. Noted for Outstanding Performance in a Leading Role were P. Foley as Percy, T.G. Verbrugge as Shelby and Erik Vick ’17 as Caleb. A. Thompson as Hannah Furgeson and George Budzius ’19 as Joe received honorable mention for Performance in a Leading Role.

Gabe Klein ’17, M. Cunniff and Adrian Ridley ’18 have also been nominated for a Spotlight Technical Leadership honor.

“I am incredibly proud of the cast and crew of The Spitfire Grill,” said Wendy Short Hays, VISTA Productions’ artistic director and co-director of The Spitfire Grill with Elliot Hays. “Everyone worked extremely hard to put on an excellent show for our audiences. This much-deserved recognition is just one of the rewards for their dedication, creativity and long hours of preparations and rehearsals.”

The Spitfire Grill is an American musical with music and book by James Valcq, and lyrics and book by Fred Alley. The musical depicts the journey of a young woman just released from prison who decides to start her life anew in a rural Wisconsin town. She participates in a journey within the town itself toward its own tenuous reawakening.

The students will perform a five minute medley from the show at a Showcase event on June 12 & 13, 2017 at the State Theatre.
