Saint Thomas Academy Intramural
Basketball Association (IBA)

All games are Saturdays - games take place between 11:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
Games will be played in the gymnasium and the air-dome.

Deposit Returns

Deposits are returned if six of the games are attended (including playoffs). If a team forfeits a game, everyone loses their deposits. Make sure you attend as many the games as you can. Forfeitures will pay for T-shirts and miscellaneous expenses. The last day to pick up deposits is March 9th.

The Top Ten Official IBA Rules and Regulations

1. HAVE FUN: Play hard, but be a good sport. Don't pull a "Ron Artest"...keep your cool and get a grip - this is obviously not the NBA!

2. HIGH SCHOOL RULES: generally apply, with notable exceptions below.

3. TIME: Games consist of two 25-minute running-time halves. In case of tie, there is a three-minute overtime. The scoreboard clock is the timekeeper.

4. POINTS: Points are tallied as two pointers inside the arc and three pointers beyond the arc. You may also earn one point in the case of a shooting foul (and ball), but only if no basket was scored. Substitutes or observers keep score on sidelines using white boards.

5. FOULS: No Refs. Fouls may be called by anyone on the court, offense or defense. No free throws in IBA. One point is awarded and possession of the ball on shooting fouls. Fouls on made shots are three-point (or four-point) plays, but only if the basket was made. On non-shooting fouls, the fouled team gets the ball back, but 0 points.

6. COLORS: Teams on the left side of column wear white t-shirts and teams on the right side of column are to wear DARK t-shirts. When in doubt, bring both!

7. OVER AND BACK: There is no "over and back" rule for the bubble, but there is in the gym. Alternate possessions to start the halves.

8. SUBSTITUTIONS: Sub early and often. Good rule of thumb - if you are not hustling back on defense, take yourself out. NOTE: At the beginning of the season teams will have a surplus of players. This underscores the need for frequent substitutions. If you are not hustling back on defense, sub out.

9. ROSTERS: Teams may play short-handed. However, if you choose to play with anybody NOT on your roster, the game is considered a forfeit loss.

10. CHECKING IN THE BALL: After a stoppage in play, it is usually done at the top of the key. Play resumes when the defender tosses the ball to the offensive player, who MUST pass the ball to a teammate (he may not dribble or shoot to resume action).
