GUIDANCE & COUNSELING MISSION STATEMENT:
At the core of the Saint Thomas Academy mission statement is the development of healthy, well-rounded young men who are holistically prepared to be leaders in the world community. The guidance and counseling department promotes this mission by providing services which foster emotional health and personal growth, preparing students for post-secondary life, and supporting students in coping with difficulties which might adversely impact their academic progress and personal development.

SAINT THOMAS ACADEMY - COUNSELING DEPARTMENT CONFIDENTIALITY GUIDELINES:
The Guidance and Counseling Department at Saint Thomas Academy is committed to respecting the rights of confidentiality entitled to each individual in the counselor-counselee relationship. However, there are certain circumstances mandated by law in which information must be provided by the counselor to other parties. These circumstances are stated below:

1. If the counselor has reason to believe the counselee is in danger of harming himself/herself or others.

2. If the counselee reveals information indicating another person(s) is in danger of harming himself/herself or others.

3. If the counselee has been, or is currently, a victim or perpetrator of physical or sexual abuse or a perpetrator of vulnerable adult abuse.

4. If the counselee or parent/legal guardian formally requests a release of information to a health professional outside of the school setting.

5. If a court orders a release of information.
