College Planning Timeline
Junior Year
February - May
* Attend conference with college advisor
* Attend College Night with parents
* Work on ACT and/or SAT testing techniques
* Take SAT
* Take ACT
* Send for college applications
* Request teacher recommendations (in May)
* Carefully select senior year courses
* Take Advanced Placement exams (if appropriate)
June-August
* Review college information
* Visit college campuses, if possible (call in advance to schedule an appointment)
* Work on college application essays
Senior Year
September - November
* Retake ACT and/or SAT, if necessary
* Attend the College Fair in Minneapolis, if necessary
* Attend the school visits by college representatives on STA's campus
* Start the application process (see advisor for assistance)
* Review the "rough drafts" of your essays with English teacher or advisor
* Visit college campuses, if possible (call in advance to schedule an appointment)
* Submit applications to advisor (the earlier, the better)
December
* Attend financial aid seminar held for parents
January
* Sign up to have mid-year grades sent to colleges requesting them
February
* Complete and send federal financial aid application - FASFA
March - May
* Notify college advisor when you have selected the college/university you will attend in the fall
* Once a student has made his final choice, send all pre-registration, housing, and orientation forms to school (pay close attention to deadlines)
* Take Advanced Placement exams, if necessary
* GRADUATE FROM SAINT THOMAS ACADEMY!
* Advisor will automatically send final grades to the student's selected college/university
