Leadership Courses

Leadership I or Leadership I Band
Military Leadership 1 is the introductory level of instruction in subjects necessary for a cadet to function effectively as a member of the Corps of Cadets.  Subjects include:  Introduction to JROTC: Drill and Ceremonies; Personal Appearance; Military Customs and Courtesies; Traditions of STA (MI); Introduction to Leadership; Self-management / Learning Skills; Techniques of Communication; and Conflict Resolution.  LET 1 Cadets are assigned as team members within the Corps of Cadets.
Grade Level: 9

Leadership II or Leadership II Band
Military Leadership 2 is the beginning of intermediate instruction designed to prepare cadets for demanding, hands-on, leadership roles at the team and squad level.   Subjects include: Personal Fitness, Drill and Ceremonies; First Aid, Introduction to Map Reading, Citizenship and Government; Drug Awareness and a continuation of Leadership Skills / Theory.  LET 2 Cadets are assigned as team members or team leaders within the Corps of Cadets.
Grade Level: 10

Leadership III or Leadership III Band
Military Leadership 3 is designed to provide the necessary training and skills for the third year cadet to assume leadership at the squad and platoon level.  Subjects include:  Command and Staff Principles; Leadership Strategies, Responsibilities, and Consequences; Decision Making; Drill and Ceremonies; Public Speaking; Planning Skills; Time Management; Etiquette and Financial Planning.  LET 3 Cadets are assigned as Squad leaders or Platoon Sergeants.

Leadership IV or Leadership IV Band
Military Leadership 4 is the culmination of JROTC at STA.  Primary emphasis is placed on the practical application of learned leadership at the platoon level.  Subjects include: Organization of the Department of Defense and each Military Service; Leadership Application and Styles; Drill and Ceremonies, Communication Skills; Teaching Skills; Mentorship; and Counseling.  LET 4 Cadets are assigned as Squad leaders, Platoon Sergeants, or Platoon Leaders.

Advanced Leadership
Advanced Military Leadership is designed for seniors assigned to the highest levels of leadership within the Corps of Cadets.  These cadets are responsible for the planning, organizing, coordinating, and executing all activities / ceremonial events within the Corps or Cadets.  In addition, they manage the cadet awards program, merit/demerit system, promotions, public affairs, technology, operations, and logistics for the entire Corps of Cadets.  These Cadets are assigned as Company First Sergeants, Executive Officers, Company Commanders, Brigade Staff Officers, Battalion Commanders and the Cadet Colonel – who commands the entire Cadet Brigade.
Prerequisite: Instructor's approval
Grade Level: 12
