Annual Fund FAQ
Are contributions to the Saint Thomas Academy Annual Fund tax-deductible?
Absolutely. All gifts made to Saint Thomas Academy are 100% tax-deductible.
Who solicits for the Annual Fund?
The Office of Institutional Advancement (Development Office) organizes the Annual Giving Program.
- Every alumni class has one or more class captains who are responsible for soliciting classmates during the year and are supported by current cadets calling alumni.
- Parents of current students serve as class captains and solicit parents.
- Grandparents, parents of alumni and friends are solicited by special representatives.
- Foundations are solicited by the staff of the Development Office.
Who receives Annual Fund solicitations?
All alumni, parents, parents of alumni, grandparents, members of the Board of Trustees and friends of the Academy receive Annual Fund solicitations. Individuals are solicited several times during the year. If an individual expresses that he or she cannot donate, he or she will not be solicited again during that year.
What is the timeline for the Annual Fund?
The Annual Fund campaign coincides with the school’s academic calendar – July 1 through June 30. For this academic/fiscal year, all gifts and pledges are due by June 30, 2008.
Can I make a gift of securities?
Yes! Saint Thomas Academy has accounts with Morgan Stanley Dean Witter. Gifts of securities
offer great benefits – a donor can take a 100% deduction on the current value of the security, even if it was purchased at a lower amount. Instructions for a securities gift [pdf]
Can I make a gift online?
Yes! There is a link to a secure transaction page. Click on the Make An Online Gift to the Academy box to the left.
How can I double my gift?
Many companies match employees’ charitable gifts. Check with your employer – you may be able to double your impact on a student’s life.
I want to make a gift but cannot at this time. What do I do?
You can notify a member of the Development Office about your pledge and ask for a mailed
reminder for your anticipated gift. Donors may request that reminders be sent at a specific time (month, end of calendar year, end of the fiscal year, etc.); donors who do not specify a date will receive quarterly reminders.
How are gifts acknowledged?
When Saint Thomas Academy receives a gift, it is processed immediately. The gift is recorded and the donor receives a ‘thank you’ from the school.
If a donor is an alumnus and a parent, how are the gifts classified?
The donor gifts are listed in the annual report within each constituency group so, in this case, the individual is listed in the parent category and with his class. However, when the overall Annual Fund totals are reported, the gift is counted once.
