Academic Probation Case Manager
Academic Probation is a program designed to track and support students who are having academic difficulties. The intent of the program is to get parents, teachers, and the case manager on the "same page." This is done by completing a weekly homework sheet, which is signed by parents and reviewed by the case manager.
Peer Counselor Adviser
Peer Counselors are a group of junior and senior students who have been trained in basic helping skills. They most often assist younger students in general relationship, academic, or adjustment issues. They also help facilitate Middle School Friendship Days and the 9th Grade Fun Night.
John Brennan, Counselor for grades 10 - 12:
“It takes courage to grow up and turn out to be who you really are.” e.e. cummings
My commitment is to guide each student in the formation of his whole self, and to facilitate the development of each student's God-given talents so he might live joyously and in gratitude, justly and with humility as he makes his journey with God.
Personal Counseling
I seek to help students experiencing personal, family, or social problems. As the counselor for sophomore, junior and senior years, I receive referrals from parents, teachers, or other staff members.
- Short-term counseling is available to students in individual sessions or sessions involving teachers, parents, and other members of the student's family.
- When warranted, we may recommend parents and students to outside professionals in the fields of medicine and psychology.
- Periodically, the department offers students the opportunity to participate in short-term group counseling. These groups address themes such as conflict resolution, substance abuse, and personal development.
Counselor Confidentiality
It is important for students and parents to know that the counselors are strictly obliged by professional ethics, Minnesota State law, and school policy to keep in confidence everything shared by a student in a counseling session. The obligation of confidentiality extends to parents in conferences regarding their son. Exceptions to confidentiality occur when the health of the student and/or some other related person is at serious risk.
