2009 Camp Ripley Trip
From August 10 to 14, a group of outstanding cadets represented Saint Thomas Academy at Camp Ripley, a JROTC leadership-training program. The cadets drilled, tackled obstacle courses, repelled, and navigated orientation courses, all while living in barracks. But the highlight of the trip was when the cadets took a ride in a Chinook helicopter. They were able to witness the pilots in action, and learned the standard military procedures in a helicopter.
Each year, STA sends cadets to fulfill the BFI required attendance at Camp Ripley, and this year was a great success. Said camp participant C. LeMay ’10, “This experience allowed me to participate in something that I never thought I’d be doing. I strengthened my JROTC knowledge, and refined my leadership skills. I whole-heartedly promote this camp for any young cadet who is considering attending next year.”
C/SSG A. Thie ’10 was named Best Cadet for tremendous leadership of his platoon and his fantastic attitude. As well as successfully fulfilling the BFI requirement, the cadets who participated in Camp Ripley thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
