Academic Probation
At the end of a grading period (quarter/semester), a student is placed on Academic Probation for the semester and may be ineligible for promotion and participation in co-curricular activities if he:
a. has failed to meet the grade point average (GPA) standard of 2.0 GPA for grades 8 -12 and 1.7 GPA for grade 7,
OR
b. has a failing (F) or Incomplete (I) grade in any course. A student with an Incomplete is removed from Academic Probation when the Incomplete is made up, only if the GPA standard is met.
At the end of a semester grading period (December/June), students must meet these two standards in both the quarter and semester grades. 1) The parents/guardians of students on Academic Probation receive a letter from one of the counselors or the Learning Specialist, giving them the option to obtain monitoring for their son. 2) Students who work with a counselor or Learning Specialist are required to follow the strategies planned for each individual student.
When a student is on his second consecutive semester of academic probation, Saint Thomas Academy may initiate an academic screening by a licensed psychologist to further clarify the cause(s) of the student’s poor academic performance and appropriate action steps by the school, parents, and student.
Students who remain on Academic Probation for two consecutive semesters or more may be asked to leave Saint Thomas Academy.
