1992 – Frank Mullaney ’39

Frank was honored as an accomplished alumnus of STMA whose vision shaped the emergence of the computer age; whose sense of rightful purpose drove his role as community servant and father; and whose devotion to Saint Thomas Academy remained steadfast and true.

His accomplishments include: co-founder of Control Data Corporation and Cray Research; giving of his time, talent & resources to colleges, the Archdiocese and ST(M)A.

1993 – Clara Glenn

Clara was honored as a devoted STA librarian whose dedication to her profession and her devotion to her students and school earned her the highest degree of professional competence.

Her accomplishments include: true Christian devotion in her dedication to God, the faculty she worked with and the belief that the library is a workshop to help students.

1994 – Archbishop John R. Roach

Archbishop Roach was honored for his extraordinary devotion and dedication to his calling as priest, educator and builder. His spiritual leadership touched and enriched all our lives.

His accomplishments include: being the driving force behind the school’s move from Saint Paul to Mendota Heights; serving as STA Headmaster from 1951 to 1968; serving God and the Church as Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis from 1975 to 1995.

1995 – Gerry and Hanky Rauenhorst

Gerry and Hanky were honored for unselfishly and generously giving their time, leadership and money to their community and to Catholic causes.

Their accomplishments include: founder of the Opus Corporation (Gerry); philanthropic involvement with various organizations and community groups; dedication to their Catholic faith; founders of Progress Valley.

1996 – J. Peter ’51 and Mary Ritten

Peter and Mary were honored for their lives of Christian service to their various communities.

Their accomplishments include: serving on numerous Boards and taking leaderships roles in fundraising efforts for STA, University of Notre Dame, Little Sisters of the Poor (to name just a few); recipient of the Hames Award (Peter); Chair for the Mary Garden at the Basilica (Mary).

1997 – Alan Ruvelson ’32

Bud was honored for his life of service to his various communities.

His accomplishments include: concern for his fellow man; strong family ties; success in the business world; tireless mentor and advisor.

Sy was honored for his life of Christian service to his various communities.

His accomplishments include: skilled and caring teacher who spent his entire career at ST(M)A; dedicated community volunteer.

1999 – Lawrence O’Shaughnessy ’39

Larry was honored for his life of Christian service to his various communities.

His accomplishments include: ardent supporter of Catholic education, member and leader of numerous civic groups; Board member of many arts organization.

2000 – Reverend Thomas Kolar

Father Kolar was honored for his life of exemplary achievements.

His accomplishments include: priest; teacher; actor; director; painter; sculptor; writer.

2001 – Walter Kurtz

Wally was honored for his leadership in and dedication to the Saint Thomas Academy community and beyond.

His accomplishments include: STA employee since 1950; founder of the STA development office; sole non-alumnus Hames Award recipient; supporter of the Como Conservatory’s Japanese Gardens; painter and poet.

2002 – Reverend Michael O’Connell ’59

Father O’Connell was honored for his dedication to the Catholic Church and his community.

His accomplishments include: Basilica pastor; founder of the Archdiocesan Permanent Diaconate Program; creator of an interfaith program in Minneapolis; proficient and prolific fundraiser.

2003 – Gerald ’48 and Maurna Donovan

Jerry and Maurna were honored for their lifelong Christian service to their communities.

Their accomplishments include: selflessly serving on numerous Boards throughout the Twin Cities and beyond; establishing the Friends of Saint Paul Seminary (Maurna); establishing the Share a Life program (Jerry and Maurna).

John (Buzz) and Pat were honored for their lifelong commitment to education and learning. Their personal philanthropy has been directed toward Catholic education, particularly to rewarding excellence in teaching.

Their accomplishments include: the Myser Family Foundation Teaching Excellence Award at Saint Thomas Academy; the Myser Initiative for Catholic Identity at the College of St. Catherine; the Myser Fellowship at the University of Notre Dame.

Chuck was honored for his commitment to education and the community beyond.

His accomplishments include: revitalizing and growing ADC Telecommunications, Inc.; serving on many boards, including the College of St. Catherine, the Science Museum of Minnesota and the Boys and Girls Club of Minneapolis; founding the Minnesota High Technology Council; named a Hill Fellow at the Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs; advocate for ethical business practices and employee rights.

Jim Keane was honored for his dedicated service to the Academy,
his church and community.

His accomplishments include: 50+ years of service in Incarnation Parish,
and almost 30 years as a volunteer reader for MN State Services for the Blind.

Saint Thomas Academy connection: Taught English at ST(M)A from 1946 to 1986. His son Michael is a member of the Class of 1974.
