EVT Records, Honors and Highlights

Saint Thomas Academy Experimental Vehicle Team Awards and Honors:

2007-08 Lemelson-MIT InvenTeam Grant
The $10,000 grant will support the development of a street-legal, electric motorcycle that will provide greater crash protection than today’s motorcycles. The vehicle will be able to travel 40+ miles before needing to be recharged by an on-board, 110-volt charger. The team will travel to MIT in June for the presentation.


2007 National Indoor Electric Ice Vehicle Challenge

(Saint Thomas Ice Arena: March 23-24, 2007)

- The EVT members created this challenge and hosted 15 teams from the Upper Midwest.

won the race.

(Texas Motor Speedway, Fort Worth: July 15-20, 2006)

- First Place Classic Division

2005 Dell-Winston School Solar Car Challenge
(Round Rock, TX to Pasadena, CA: July 8-16, 2005)

- First Place Overall
- First Place Classic Division
- Winner of the Terion Award for engineering excellence
- First car in the Classic Division to win the Challenge
- First car in either division to complete all the available miles in the Challenge
- First car in the Classic Division to complete 130 miles in one day

- National Record: 100 Km in 1:52:36 (32.61 mph)

- First Place Overall
- National Record: 100 km in 2:08:04 (28.67 mph)
- Previous record (2001): Old Rocket Men (adults) 2:26:32 (25.0 mph)


2003 World Human Powered Ice Race Championships
(Lindstrom, MN: January 25, 2003)

- First place:100-meter time trial with 7.6 seconds (29.4 mph)
- Second place: 50-meter drag race
- First place: Five lap circuit race
