Highlights from the 2006-07 school year
The Saint Thomas Academy Experimental Vehicle Team added another trophy to their collection by winning the inaugural National Indoor Electric Ice Vehicle Challenge. Hosted by the Saint Thomas Ice Arena, high school and adult teams were challenged to design, build and race one-person electric vehicles to race on the ice. STA’s David Riehm ’07 crossed the finish line as the 2007 National Champion.
VISTA Productions’ version of Crazy For You was part of Hennepin Theatre Trust’s SpotLight Musical Theatre Program. The musical won every category it was nominated for – Outstanding Achievement in Overall Production of a Musical [congratulations to VISTA moderators Wendy Short-Hays and Elliott Hays]; Outstanding Achievement by a Chorus/Dance Ensemble; G. Chapman [Vis], Outstanding Achievement in a Leading Role; Michael Cheng ’07, Outstanding Achievement in a Leading Role; Wyatt Tilka ’07, Outstanding Achievement in Lighting Design; S. Blanz [Vis], Outstanding Achievement in Stage Management; Will Thornton ’07, Honorable Mention in a Supporting Role.
The Rifle Team placed 12th in the Western Regional Marksmanship Championship at the Olympic Village in Denver. The team scored 170 points higher than last year's total.
The Orienteering team won the conference championship for the third consecutive year. STA students ranked first through fifth in the individual conference standings.
The Quiz Bowl team placed third in the state and 71st (out of 160 teams) at the nationals. The team won the University of Minnesota Gopher Invitational.
The Knowledge Bowl team placed fourth in the state tournament.
The Debate team had an outstanding weekend in the Capital City tournament. The varsity policy debate team won all four preliminary rounds and won the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds by 3-0 margins. They were unable to debate the final round due to illness.
The VISTA Band, Orchestra and Chamber Choir traveled to St. Louis, MO, in February for performances.
The Music Listening Team placed fifth in the state competition.
The Middle School students from STA and Visitation presented Once Upon a Mattress in February.
The Middle School Pops Group performed at the Minneapolis Holidazzle Parade.
