The long layover in Miami was even longer as a storm delayed our flight for a half hour. We made the most of it with cribbage, spoons and other card games. We arrived in time to get reacquainted with our instructors, Bill and Dennis, and enjoy the pool.

Wednesday, June 13
Busy morning setting up equipment. The first dive at Smith’s Cove was a success. The boys worked on improving basic skills and spent the afternoon and evening snorkeling and playing Frisbee.

Thursday, June 14
Rain! Rain! Rain!
The rain is a mixed blessing. It keeps us cool, but it hurts the water quality. A few of us have taken pictures today. More cameras will be available tomorrow. Highlights of dive today included Barracudas, Green Sea Turtle, Green Moray Eel, and the overall beauty of the reef.

Friday, June 15The sunshine has been spotty today. The first dive site was at Mermaid; one group of students was able to swim over the wall (the second group did so at the next dive site). It was quite an experience for them as you can’t see the bottom of the ocean. The second dive site was at Babylon. A group of students was able to spend time photographing a beautiful green moray eel.

Saturday, June 16The sun has been out all day so we are really feeling the heat now. Wonderful lessons about sunscreen will be learned tomorrow when they put on their gear. It was nice to finally have the sunshine illuminate the ocean. Both dives today were at Don Fosters. During the first dive the students were able to dive the grotto (small channels through the coral – see photo below). The second dive was just as fun with abundant sea life – several sea turtles, lobsters, sea cucumbers, and plenty of beautiful fish. Many of the students are claiming the first or second dive as their best so far.

Sunday, June 17It's just past 6:00 a.m. - looks like some boys successfully slept outside.
Sunday, June 17Dived at two different dive shops. It was a nice treat to stay out of the sand as both sites had ladder entries into the ocean. We ate lunch at Cobalt Coast (a resort). Plenty of sea turtles and other abundant sea life that continue to keep the boys improving their photographic skills. Stopped at the town “Hell,” a big tourist attraction on the island.

Monday, June 18Only one dive today as we have to stay out of the water for 24 hours prior to air travel. We dove at Mermaid and did a beach cleanup as a small community service project. It’s a holiday today, the Queen’s birthday, and all stores and businesses are closed. The boys are occupying their time playing on the beach and swimming in the pool. Tomorrow we hope to stop in George Town and shop before our flight. We look forward to seeing everyone back at home on Tuesday night!
