Highlights from the 2007-08 school year
The Music Listening team placed first at the regional competition and sixth at the state tournament.
The Quiz Bowl team tied for fifth at the state tournament.
The Rifle Team placed tenth in the Western Regional Marksmanship Championship at the Olympic Village in Denver.
An STA team won the 2008 Eden Prairie Pop Culture Invitational Championship.
A. Kies '09 placed second out of the 192 contestants.
VISTA Productions presented 1940’s Radio Hour and Into the Woods to rave reviews. Into the Woods won nine Hennepin Theatre Trust’s SpotLight Musical Theatre Program awards.
The VISTA Fine Arts Society sponsored two Variety Shows, highlighting unique student talents.
The Experimental Vehicle Team received a Lemelson-MIT InvenTeam $10,000 grant to complete an electric motorcycle. The motorcycle received national acclaim and was featured on CNN (the story was picked up around the country) and local television and radio stations. The motorcycle was displayed at the Minnesota State Fair in the Eco-Experience Building.
The Honors Jazz Band hosted the first annual Swing Dance weekend for parents and alumni.
Members of the VISTA Band participated for the first time in the MSHSL Solo and Ensemble Contest, the students received five Superior Ratings (top honor) and four Excellent Ratings.
The Rifle Team won three team championships and placed seventh out of 1,200 teams during the National Competition. W. Sullivan ’09 individually placed 11th in the nation. B. Bowersox ’09 individually placed 13th in the nation. E. Mitchem ’09 placed 30th in the nation and
D. Zimmermann ’10 placed 31st.
The Orienteering team won the conference championship for the fourth year in a row.
The Crack Drill Squad performed at area grade schools, Auction Family night and Military Ball. The Squad also traveled to Mexico and performed for a number of schools and orphanages.
The Debate team won eight individual and team trophies at invitational tournaments.
The Quiz Bowl team won the Pop Culture Invitational Championship.
The Honor Guard/Color Guard served at more than 70 events throughout the year.
