First Annual Stress Release Shoot-Out

February 4, 2008

While students were at home studying for the next day’s final exams, 54 STA teachers and staff members participated in the First Annual "Stress Release Shoot-Out". These employees, male and female alike, shot in the STA rifle range from a distance of ten meters with a .177 caliber Air Rifle.

The members of LET staff were excluded from this competition due to their unfair advantage. However, previous members of the Navy, Army and Air Force were allowed to participate along with their civilian counterparts. The prizes of this competition included bragging rights, clothes and gift certificates.

When the smoke cleared, the winner was Ms. Neddermeyer, the STA band instructor and a novice shooter. Her combined score for the prone and standing position was 137, 79 and 58 respectively. In second place was Director of the Middle School Mr. Fleischhacker, with a score of 133. Mr. Tom Weber, seventh grade English teacher, won third place with a total of 130 points. All three of these individuals qualified as a sharpshooter.

In total, more than half the people who shot qualified for the marksman badge. After the results were read at Formation, Chief Preblich, the organizer of the event, said, “We are looking forward to our next competition.”
