Dakota Woodlands, located in Eagan, is the only emergency/transitional housing facility for homeless women and their children. Our mission is to “empower homeless women to create stable futures for their families.” We are unique from most shelters in two ways. One, there is no limit to how long a family can stay. Two, we take time to provide educational programs and supportive services to help move families from no home, through our home, to their own homes … permanently.

Classroom Volunteers Needed
We are looking for people who would bring kindness to our school day. Many of our students have very tough lives at home and it is very important for their school days to be fun and filled with positive energy. Our students love to have the help of a volunteer and they enjoy the friendship, as well as the extra help, especially in the following areas.
Our physical education teacher, Mr. Fishback, has asked for three students to help him prepare for their track and field day.
Mrs. Goulet, one of our kindergarten teachers, is planning on putting together an operetta and would like the help of three students.
Mrs. Huberty is one of our fifth grade teachers, Ms. Brown is one of our first grade teachers, and Mrs. Gates is another one of our first grade teachers here at Dayton’s Bluff. They each have a class of about 15 students and they each would like one or two STA students to join their classroom.
Typically, the seniors would be working with individual students or with small groups, developing students' reading and math skills. The seniors also might be asked to join the children during lunch, recess, and their science class. This would be a great opportunity for someone interested in education. Dayton's Bluff is a National Model school, successfully employing many of the current best practices in education. In 2006, we received the 3rd Annual Dispelling the Myth Award from the U.S. Department of Education in recognition of our successful efforts to improve the achievement of all students. Exciting things are happening here at Dayton's Bluff and your seniors are welcome to experience them first hand.
We hope these possibilities will be of interest to your students.
