Co-Curricular Athletics -
Highlights from the 2008-09 school year

The Cross Country team placed first in the conference for the second consecutive year. The team placed second at the sectional meet and qualified for the state tournament for the first time in 11 years. The Cadets placed 11th at the state tournament (out of 36 teams). The team also earned the Gold Standard of Academic Excellence Award with a team GPA of 3.994 (criteria: the top five GPAs are selected from the state roster of nine, then averaged to give a team score; the Gold standard is 3.75 to 4.0). Coach Todd Hierlmaier was named the Section Cross Country Coach of the Year. 

The Football team was the conference co-champion (regular season record of 7-1) and seeded number one in the section 3AAAA tournament. The team was the section champion. The team finished the season with a 10-2 record after losing in the state quarterfinal game.

The Soccer team was the conference co-champion. The team was seeded number one in section 3A and was the runner-up in the section, finishing the year with a record of 15-2-2 (the best in the history of STA soccer). Coach Julius Tangwe was named the Section Soccer Coach of the Year. 

The 8th Grade Football team won the Metro Football League Championship.

The Middle School Blue Soccer team was the CAA City Runners-up. 

The Swimming and Diving team won the Class A True Team Championship and was the section champion.The team competed in its tenth straight state tournament, placing second.

The Nordic Ski team placed second in the conference.

The Alpine Ski team was the conference champion after an undefeated regular season; the section champion and the 2009 State Champion. D. Thomas '11 placed second individually at the state meet. The team placed first at the Wild Mountain Invitational, the Welch Invitational and the All Conference Race, the team placed second at the Frostbite JV Invitational. Coach Tom Carlson was named the Section Alpine Coach of the Year. Assistant Coach Nelson Carlson '02 was named the Section Alpine Assistant Coach of the Year. 

The Hockey team was the conference champion and seeded number one in the section 4A tournament, where they placed second in the section.

The 8th Grade A Basketball team won the Catholic Athletic Association (CAA) Championship and the "Twin Cities" Championship.

The 8th Grade B Basketball team was the CAA runner-up.

The Wrestling team finished the season with a record of 9-12. For the second straight year,
R. Hidalgo '10 represented the Cadets at the state tournament. 

The Basketball team was seeded number two in the section 1AAA tournament, where they placed second in the section.

The Rifle Team performed exceptionally well:
- U.S. Army Junior Open Air Rifle Championship (Sporter Team) at Fort Benning, third place nationally.
B. Bowersox ’09 individually placed second in the nation with an aggregate score of 1163.4 (just 24.95 points out of first). W. Sullivan ’09 placed 15th, D. Zimmermann ’10 placed 22nd and S. Loufek ’11 placed 27th.

- U.S. Army JROTC Army Service Championship, Sporter Class, 13th place nationally
- Minnesota Junior Olympic Championship, Sporter Class
       Individual first (W. Sullivan '09), second (B. Bowersox '09), and third (D. Zimmermann '10)
       First Place overall in Sporter Team Category
- U. S. Army JROTC 11th Brigade first place qualifier for the 2009 U.S. Army JROTC Service Championship
- Minnesota American Legion State Champions Sporter Class
       First Place Team (Sullivan, Bowersox, Zimmermann, Elliott Mitchem '09)

The Track and Field Team won the Catholic High School Invitational, Varsity and Junior Varsity. The team also won the True Team State Section Meet and placed fifth at the True Team State Meet. J. Ryan '09 won the True Team State shot put. D. Ayotte '09, A. Braddock '11, D. Freund '10 and N. Moloczij '09 won the True Team State 4x100 relay. L. Marks '09 qualified for the state tournament as the Section III AA champion in discus.

D. Ayotte '09, A. Braddock '11, D. Freund '10 and N. Moloczij '09 set a new school record in the 4x100 relay (43.74).

The Baseball Team finished the season with a record of 9-11.

The Tennis Team finished the season with a record of 10-7.

The Golf Team finished the season in third place in the conference.

The Lacrosse Team finished the season with a record of 8-6.
