High School Study and Writing Skills

BRIDGE TO STA: STUDY SKILLS & MORE

Grade Level: 9-10    Course Fee: $130
Limit: 17 students per session


The Bridge to STA course is open to students new to Saint Thomas Academy.  Students learn about organizational strategies, time management, tutoring/study strategies, test preparation, note-taking, and many other helpful skills by using material from the upcoming first weeks of their math, religion, and science courses. Students are required to complete small amounts of homework during this session. Students need to read one of their summer reading books prior to the beginning of this course. Students also receive an orientation to the building and meet members of the faculty and staff. Each session lasts one week (Monday - Thursday). Registration takes place in May.

Session 1:  July 8-11       12:30-3:30 p.m.
Session 2:  July 15-18     8:30-11:30 a.m.
Session 3:  July 22-25     12:30-3:30 p.m.
Session 4:  August 5-8    12:30-3:30 p.m.


SUMMER WRITING SKILLS

Grade Level: 9-12    Course Fee: $150
Limit: 10 students per session

The Summer Writing Skills course is open to all STA students in grades 9-12.  Participants learn modes of pre-college writing, including expository, analytical, and persuasive essays.  They study brainstorming, organizing an essay, revising work, and increasing overall clarity in writing.  Students will do a small amount of homework (less than an hour each night) during this class.  Classes are one week long (M-Thu), and many sessions are scheduled opposite the “Bridge to STA: Study skills” course, which means your child can attend one class in the morning, a break for lunch and attend another class in the afternoon.  Registration forms will be available in February.

Session 4:  July 15-18 (Gr. 9/10)      12:30-3:30 p.m.
Session 5:  July 22-25 (Gr. 9/10)      8:30-11:30 a.m.
