Winter Week Medallion Hunt
The medallion can be hidden inside or outside. The medallion is not hidden in a classroom, the pool, the chapel, the Grotto, or the ice arena. The medallion is hidden on our immediate campus. If found you should bring the medallion to Mr. Westlake to claim the $50 prize.
Clue 1
Ah, the medallion hunt is the scourge of many.
Finding the disk comes with money-a-plenty
All cleaned up and ready to play
Do you go out or in do you stay.

BE A JUDGE FOR HISTORY DAY!
The Social Studies department of Saint Thomas Academy will sponsor the 14th annual History Day competition at Saint Thomas Academy on the evening of Wednesday, February 15, 2012.
This year the theme is Revolution, Reaction, and Reform in History. Students in grades 8 and 11 have been doing extensive research on topics related to this theme and will be presenting their exhibits, web sites, performances and documentaries to their classmates and the public.
We would like to invite parents, faculty, staff, and all members of the Saint Thomas Academy community to serve as judges for this event. About 36 judges are needed. No experience or special knowledge is required–instruction will be provided beforehand. The event will take about three hours of your time, between approximately 6:45 and 9:30 p.m. on the evening of February 15. Past judges have agreed that the judging experience is enjoyable and valuable for judges and students alike.
If you are interested in judging, please provide the information requested below and return it to me at Saint Thomas Academy by Friday, February 10 (though earlier is better).
E-mail communications are best because I can provide easy and instant updates–my address is dhoverson@cadets.com. Please send the following information to volunteer:
-
Your name
-
Your full address
-
Your daytime and evening telephone numbers
-
Is your son in grade 8 or 11? If so, please include his name
-
Your preference of format type to judge - Exhibit - Media Documentary -
Performance - Web site - No Preference
All judges will receive a confirmation notice and additional information on judging this theme within a few days after I receive your registration. Thank you for helping with this important educational event.

Freshman Skiing/Tubing Day at Afton Alps
Every winter the entire 7th, 8th and 9th grades take an-all day ski and/or tubing trip. This year's trip is Tuesday, February 7, 2012, at Afton Alps Recreation Area. This is an excellent opportunity for students to have a fun-filled day with their classmates as well as learn and participate in a life-long activity. The trip is for all freshmen regardless of skiing ability. This is not a “day off” for students.

Pool information
At the STA Board of Trustees meeting on Tuesday, December 13, a resolution was passed that Saint Thomas Academy will repair the pool building, so that both the Visitation and STA swim teams will be able to practice and compete in the pool for the 2012-13 season. Additionally, a recommendation was made to the Board that an ad-hoc committee be formed to study options for the pool replacement as envisioned in the Defining Moment Capital Campaign. This committee will be comprised of representatives from the Saint Thomas Academy and Visitation Boards of Trustees, the STA Buildings and Grounds Committee, VISTA swim community parents and the STA coaching staff. This committee will be formed and begin its work after the New Year.

Roundabout at Mendota Heights Road
Motorists
• When approaching a roundabout, slow down. For multi-lane roundabouts, as with any intersection, get into the appropriate lane.
• Yield to pedestrians in the crosswalk, because they have the right of way. It is the law.
• When entering a roundabout, yield to vehicles already in the roundabout. Merge into the traffic flow when it is safe.
• Continue through the roundabout until you reach your exit. Do not stop or pass in a roundabout.
• If an emergency vehicle approaches, exit the roundabout immediately and then pull over – do not stop in the roundabout.
• When exiting the roundabout, signal your turn and yield to pedestrians in the crosswalk.
