Advanced Placement

By participating in Saint Thomas Academy's Advanced Placement (AP), College in the Schools (CIS), PACC, & Honors Courses students can:

• Receive college credit
• Get an early advantage in understanding the basis of college course work 
• Develop crucial study habits that are necessary when tackling college-level courses
• Study subjects of interest in greater detail

By taking higher level courses, you show potential colleges and universities that you: 

• Have a willingness and desire to challenge yourself in the classroom
• Are mature and currently ready for college level work
• Are committed to achieving success at the highest level

To enroll in an AP/CIS/PAAC/Honors course, you must have the prerequisites that are required for that specific course and department. These can be found in either the course catalog or on the desired Academic page under courses.

Saint Thomas Academy offers Advanced Placement (AP) courses in:

• Biology
• Calculus AB
• Calculus BC
• Computer Science
• Economics
• English
• Environmental Science
• Government
• Statistics
• U.S. History
• World History
• AP Chinese, French and Spanish are offered through Visitation.
  
  Students may earn college credit by taking an AP exam in May.  All AP students are expected to take the AP exam.  The GPA weight for AP courses is 1.2.  Weight changes to 1.1 if student does not take the AP exam.
