Military Leadership at Saint Thomas Academy.

Military Leadership uses the Platoon Module to introduce new cadets and also solidify the foundational level of instruction of second, third and fourth year cadets in subjects necessary for each young man to function effectively as a member of the Corps of Cadets. Subjects include: introduction to the organizational structure of  STA Corps of Cadets; drill and ceremonies; personal appearance; communication skills and public speaking; American Armed Military Services; customs and courtesies; traditions of STA; rifle marksmanship; history of STA; planning and goal setting; leadership theory, strategies, and responsibilities; mentorship and performance counseling, and life saving skills (CPR and first aid).  First and second year cadets are typically assigned as team members within the Corps of Cadets. Third-year cadets are typically assigned as Assistant Squad Leaders or Squad Leaders. Fourth year cadets who are not selected for Advanced Military Leadership are often assigned as Squad leaders, Platoon Sergeants, or Platoon Leaders.

Prerequisite: Instructor approval Advanced Military Leadership is designed for seniors assigned to the highest levels of leadership within the Corps of Cadets. These cadets are responsible for the planning, organizing, coordinating, and executing all activities / ceremonial events within the Corps of Cadets. In addition, they manage the cadet awards program, merit/demerit system, promotions, public affairs, technology, operations, and logistics for the entire Corps of Cadets. These Cadets are assigned as Company First Sergeants, Executive Officers, Company Commanders, Platoon Leades, Brigade Staff Officers, Battalion Commanders and the Cadet Colonel – who commands the entire Cadet Brigade.
