History Day

THURSDAY, February 23, 2023

The Social Studies Department at Saint Thomas Academy invites you to be a judge in our 29th annual History Day in Minnesota contest on February 23, 2023. This year’s contest features our 8th and 11th grade students creating exhibits, websites, documentaries, and performances on the theme of “Frontiers in History: People, Places, Ideas.”

The national, state, and regional contests are returning to in-person judging, and so are we! Our school contest will be held at STA on the evening of Thursday, February 23 (the unusual Thursday date is to avoid conflicts with Ash Wednesday and section athletic contests). We would like judges to arrive at 6:15 p.m. for a brief training session and the contest will begin at 7:00 p.m. Judging should be completed by 9:00 p.m. and some groups will be done earlier.

We invite parents, family members, faculty, alumni and anyone in the community with an interest in history to be a judge. No experience or special knowledge is required. We need about 40 judges in order to create groups that are small enough to give the judges enough time with each entry.

If you are interested in judging, please fill out the form located here before Sunday, February 19. You will receive a confirmation email with additional information and links to judging instructional videos and critique sheets.

Thank you for supporting our history scholars!
