The Saint Thomas Academy Rifle Team consists of the top marksmen in the school. Moderated by CW4 Paul Preblich, the Rifle Team competes in Minnesota State Junior Olympic,  National Rifle Association (NRA), American Legion, and Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) matches, ranging anywhere from regional postal competitions to National Invitationals. The Rifle Team fires Crosman .177 cal air rifles as well as Kimber .22 caliber rifles. The season is from November to March. Practices for the .177 air rifles are Tuesday and Thursday, with occasional .22 caliber practices as necessary. See CW4 Preblich for details. All students, grades 6-12, are welcome to try out for the team. This team does have cuts as there is a limit to the size. Visit the team's page for more information.

parade.jpgHonor Guard/Color Guard

The Honor Guard is a prestigious company of cadets committed to excellence in the uniform and representing Saint Thomas at wakes and funerals of alumni. The Honor Guard also participates in various events each year such as the Children's Hospital Ball or the Festival of Trees. At these events the Honor Guard holds open doors and represents STA in the most respectable fashion of wearing the uniform. The Color Guard a branch of the Honor Guard, presents the school, national, and state colors at various functions. In the past, the color guard has presented the colors for Governor Tim Pawlenty, Senator Norm Coleman, and even President George W. Bush! See CW3 Friede for details.

Ranger_Team.jpgRanger Challenge

The team is the first and only in the state of Minnesota and competes all over the country, traveling from Kansas to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Rangers compete in teams of five to nine cadets and competitions often take entire weekends. These competitions consist of numerous events designed to test cadet’s mental and physical toughness and their ability to work as a team. Events range from map reading and simulated emergency medical situations to 10k runs and obstacle courses. See SFC Hurd to sign up.

Trap shooting is the fastest growing high school team sport in the state and has replaced hockey to take over the number four most popular team sport. The team consists of high school shooters as well as shooters from our Middle School. The Minnesota State High School Clay Target League (MSHSCTL) sanctions competitions and tournaments. The team competes against other teams in our conference at the South Saint Paul Rod and Gun Club and scores are submitted to the league electronically. The state league tournament is in mid-June in Alexandria, MN over a four-day period. Visit the team's page for more information.
