What is Quiz Bowl & Knowledge Bowl?
Quiz Bowl and Knowledge Bowl is a sport for the mind. It provides a format for student growth centered on academics. It generates the kind of attention for bright students that is normally reserved for star athletes. For those who participate, it sends the message "It is cool to be smart." Over the years, many teams have had great success at the state and national level.
How does the competition work?
Quiz Bowl and Knowledge Bowl are interdisciplinary academic contests designed for high school students. During a meet, teams of four students compete in written and oral rounds by answering questions related to all areas of learning.
Questions are developed from over 15 curriculum areas, including math; science; national and world affairs; art and music; geography; U.S. and world history and world languages. Questions test students' recall, problem solving and critical thinking skills. Participation takes quick thinking and teamwork and like all team sports, students learn to work together to reach their goal.

It is almost time for Knowledge Bowl season at Saint Thomas Academy! We have traditionally had a very successful team and hope to continue this reputation for the 2016-2017 season. The season begins on October 27th, which is the first day of practice, and ends on Thursday, February 16th.
I will be taking over moderating duties for the Middle School team this year. Email me if you have any questions or concerns about the season or the team at email@example.com. I teach English at the high school but enjoy working with the middle school level as well!
We have practices during formation, 10:10-10:30 a.m. on Tuesday and Thursday, beginning on October 27th and ending on Thursday, February 16th. Students will be excused from formation during this time to participate.
This will not conflict with Math Team practices, which will be held during formation time on Mondays and Wednesdays when our season begins.
There will be five meets total and each meet requires students to be transported to and from the meet by an adult. The date, time, and location of each meet is TBD. Most meets will occur on a Tuesday, between 3:30 and 7:00 p.m.
There is not any school transportation set up to take students to the meets so it is imperative that parents are available to take their sons to the meet. The meets are all located in the metro area. Contact me if you need to get in touch with other parents for carpooling options.
