This scholarship recognizes the commitment and sacrifice made to our country by veterans and military families. The purpose of this scholarship is to assist young men in their pursuit of academic success and character development, and to prepare them to become leaders.

The NewDay USA Foundation Scholarship may provide up to $15,000 tuition assistance for students attending Saint Thomas Academy. Participating schools will match this award. Families are expected to contribute as they are able. Eligible students may apply for the scholarships by completing an application with the schools to which they have been accepted.

Eligibility

An applicant's parent or legal guardian must be:

• a fallen U.S. armed service member killed on active duty; or,
• a U.S. Veteran who has died due to their combat related service, or
• a member of the armed forces who has been seriously and completely disabled in combat
• independent of the scholarship application, applicants must apply to and be accepted by school to which they are applying

Selection Criteria

• Priority is given to the children whose parents or guardians who have made the ultimate sacrifice, or sustained severe and complete disability in combat
• Applicants will be evaluated based on all submitted materials. Essays, transcripts and references are key to evaluating the potential applicant.
• Financial circumstance of the applicant's family may be considered

Saint Thomas Academy partners with the Flaherty Family Foundation (FFF) to provide scholarships to high achieving Grade 8 students who have high financial need. 

Criteria to apply for this scholarship, which will be renewed each year of high school provided students maintain the following requirements:

• 7th and 8th grade GPA of 3.5.
• Student is a strong contributor to his community, with a strong desire to attend Saint Thomas Academy.
• Families must complete a TADS application (tads.com) with all required documentation by February 1.
• Demonstrate high financial need.
• Students are required to submit an application to FFF, and the FFF will select the students and families they will interview.

The organization is set up for parent and their children to volunteer at an assortment of professional and college sports games. Their hours of volunteerism allows for the parents earn dollars that can go towards students tuition. MN Fundraising Initiative secures contracts with over 23 venues in the greater Twin Cities area including Target Field, Target Center, Canterbury, and US Bank to operate food and beverage concessions stands at their events.

MNFI organizes teams of volunteers from all over the state of MN and WI who work together to run these stands. In turn, MNFI receives donations from these venues. The donations are then used to award grants to families in local communities to allow youth to participate in enrichment activities they may not otherwise be able to enjoy.

Through our grants, youth have taken part in school trips, sports camps, band & choir trips, and team sports of all kinds and been able to attend college.

Tartan Area Youth Enrichment, Inc. has contracted with various event promoters to staff concession stands with volunteer workers in exchange for a percentage commission on all sales in those stands. This has been a very fun and profitable fund-raiser.  What began in 2009 as a hockey fund-raiser has expanded to include the entire Tartan area and several neighboring communities. Volunteers have the opportunity to work at Twins baseball, Vikings football, high school tournaments, various trade shows and conventions, and many other special events.

Concession workers in our program are volunteers and are not paid for their work. They may designate a “share” of the proceeds of each event they work to various non-profit organizations to enrich the youth and/or community.  Each month checks are distributed to designated organizations along with a report showing who worked to donate those funds.  These monies do not belong to the volunteers; they belong to the organization designated. The funds are not income for the volunteers and do not belong to the volunteers.  The stand commissions earned are paid to the Tartan Area Youth Enrichment, Inc., which, in turn, forwards them to the various non-profit organizations designated by the volunteers. These funds are to be used at the discretion of the various non-profit organizations for the general good of the group, not as income for individual members. Tartan Area Youth Enrichment, Inc. is a tax-exempt 501c-3 organization and, as such, files returns with the federal and state governments. Our exempt status is based on the premise that volunteers are not paid for their work and are not employees. Volunteers are not covered by any worker’s compensation benefits through Tartan Area Youth Enrichment, Inc., the companies for whom we volunteer or the non-profit organizations that receive donations.
