Student Prayer Spaces

Theology Faculty member Joel Loecken asked his students to share their prayer space at home.  Below, is what Cadet Batzler shared about his area.

My prayer space is very calming and relaxing. What I have in my prayer space is a glass with a spoon in it so it makes a calming noise to get myself ready for prayer and to close all of my thoughts and only focus on prayer. One of the pictures I have is a picture of my football team/classmates. I like to pray for them because I want to make sure they are safe over this time. The second picture I have is a picture of my parents. My parents work constantly for 10 hours a day at times. And they get really tired and I need to pray for them because I want them to succeed in life and for them to be happy. I also have a cross that I received from my baptism. I felt like this is the best tool because it represents cleansing of sin and new life. Which is what Jesus did. The space I chose for my space was a quiet space in the living room. It is a room in the house that is only used if we have guests over. Here is my standard procedure: I would sit down and drop the spoon into the glass and wait until the ringing stops. And then I make the sign of the cross and then I would start to clear all of my thoughts. And then I start praying for the people that are in those pictures.
