Military Ball
In preparation for Military Ball 2025, we are sharing some helpful information and clarity about this spectacular end-of-the-year event.
The annual Military Ball event will be held at Saint Thomas Academy on Saturday, May 17, from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. The cost for the dance is $70 per couple and is open to students in grades 10 - 12. Tickets will be electronic and can be purchased here. The permission form for guests attending Military Ball can be found HERE (completed by guest parent/guardian). Please forward them the link.
The Military Ball is an exciting and enjoyable evening. This dance is viewed as one of the culminating social events of the school year. Our goal at Saint Thomas Academy is to have a dance that is safe and enjoyable for all who attend. Parents, we are asking you to talk with your son about the decision-making surrounding this evening. Please support us in promoting a chemical-free night of celebration.
Seniors should enter Flynn Hall and check-in at 7:00 p.m. for the Grand March (at 7:30 p.m.) and the Fathers' Club will be valeting cars in the Flynn Hall parking lot for seniors. The traditional final performance of the Crack Drill Squad will start immediately following the Grand March with the dance to follow.
This is our school’s “Prom,” so there is a specific dress code. See Captain Honan’s information below for the Cadet dress code. Cadets should convey the following to their guests: all attendees should come in tasteful, formal attire. Please keep in mind the following dress code expectations; clean, neat, and modest; dresses should be an appropriate length- two-three inches from the knee; see-through mesh, strapless, and low-cut necklines or outfits with cut-outs are not acceptable; two-piece clothing should cover the midriff; skin-tight clothing is not acceptable; undergarments should not be exposed. Purses and personal items will be checked at the door, large bags are not permitted.
Sophomores and Juniors will check in at Flynn Hall starting at 7:30 p.m. They may have their vehicle valeted by the Fathers' Club. Sophomores and juniors will proceed to the Court for the final Crack Drill Squad performance followed by the dance.
Senior parents will enter through Flynn Hall and be able to gather in the Court behind the rope line for the Grand March. We ask that all others gather on the second floor. We have hired a professional photographer to take photos of the Grand March, and those photos will be available on the website to download.
Dance Portion
Dancing will follow the Crack Drill performance and will take place in Holtz Gym. The dance will end promptly at 11:00 p.m. Please inform your ride, arrange transportation, and make sure you communicate with your parents if you depart campus early.
This is a formal event and is one of the highlights of the school year. Therefore, it is extremely important that Cadets present themselves in an exemplary manner. Cadets who arrive to the Ball in a "state of disrepair" will not be allowed admittance. Now is the time to prepare your uniform.
Uniform guidelines include:
- Class A-1 Uniform (white pants).
- White shirt with black bow tie.
- Authorized awards and decorations only
- Haircut, grooming, and uniform appearance standards will be enforced. Failure to comply with standards may result in being denied participation in the Military Ball.
- Earrings, necklaces, and non-regulation shoes are not authorized.
- Boutonnieres (flowers) are allowed on the blouse coat lapel.
- Cadets should be in complete uniform during dinner and the formal part of the Military Ball, which includes: arrival, the Grand March, and photographs. Cadets may remove their blouse coats and ties during dancing. It is critical that cadets stay in the proper uniform off-campus / at dinner as they are representatives of the school and the entire STA community.
The intent of the evening is to have a great time. However, basic etiquette rules apply, such as:
- Order a corsage for your date that color coordinates with her dress.
- Make reservations for dinner and transportation.
- Escort your date on your left arm or walk on the traffic side.
- Open the door (car, home, restaurant) for your date.
- Priority of conversation is with your date first, then, your buddies.
- Be courteous; use "Sir” or “Ma'am" when addressing your date’s parents.
- Profanity or crude language is a NO-GO!
- At dinner, if attending with other couples, alternate seating boy, girl..etc..
- Expect to pay for dinner and tip accordingly (20%).
- Pull the chair out for your date and allow her to sit first.
- Lastly, have fun and be safe.
During the Grand March, only parents of senior Cadets are allowed on the Court floor, two seated guests per cadet. In addition, we require that additional observers stay behind the rope line. All other parents and guests may take photos from the balcony. We ask that all parents comply with these requirements. Overcrowding in the Court hinders the saber arch ceremony and the Grand March.
