Student Health Services
Services to students, faculty, and staff include, but are not limited to: first aid, administration of medications, screenings (vision/hearing and scoliosis), counseling, communicable disease control, and maintenance of school health records.
There is a school nurse on duty most of the hours that school is in session. It is important that an up-to-date Emergency Information card is on file with the nurse so she can reach a parent by phone if the student becomes ill or injured.

Minnesota Immunization Requirements
According to the MDH website, “Changes to immunization requirements for children in Minnesota childcare, early childhood programs and schools will better protect children and communities from a number of potentially serious diseases. The new rules, adopted by the MDH in 2014, brought Minnesota’s immunizations law in line with current national recommendations and practices.” The MDH highly recommends that all families consider meeting the requirements as they are based on best practices for preventing disease.
As families anticipate making appointments with pediatricians this spring and summer, please be aware of the immunization requirements for starting school next fall.
Students entering sixth or seventh grade (11-years-old) need a Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis (Tdap) booster. These students will also need two doses of the Meningococcal vaccine (MCV, MPSV) or at least the first of the two-shot series. This is in addition to the previously required vaccines.
To go to school in Minnesota, students must show they’ve had these immunizations or file a legal exemption with the school. Parents may file a medical exemption signed by a healthcare provider or a conscientious objection signed by a parent/guardian, which must be notarized.
Please note that Saint Thomas Academy adheres to Minnesota law mandating that all students be 100 percent compliant with MN Immunization requirements before they are allowed to start school in the fall. If your student is entering sixth grade or is new to STA next fall, we greatly appreciate your cooperation in submitting appropriate immunization records for your child on or before July 1, 2017.
