Bridge to STA—Study Skills & More
Age Group:
Incoming STA students entering grades 6-8
Session 5:
July 10-13 (8:30-11:30 a.m.)
Session 6:
July 17-20 (8:30-11:30 a.m.)

July 24-27 (8:30-11:30 a.m.)

Description:
This course is open to students new to STA. Students learn about organizational strategies, time management, tutoring/study strategies, test preparation, note-taking, and many other helpful skills by using material from the upcoming first weeks of their math, theology, and science courses. Students are required to complete small amounts of homework during the session. Students need to read one of their summer reading books prior to the beginning of this course. Getting to know other new students is a great advantage.  Students also receive an orientation to the building and meet members of the faculty and staff. Each session lasts one week (Monday-Thursday).
Fee:
$130, Maximum of 17 students per session

College Ready: Make Your Summer Count!

Description:
For rising seniors and juniors, this nine-hour course will cover the following topics: Naviance Family Connection; College Search and Search Tools; Deadlines and Due Dates; College Visits; Interviews; Testing; Recommendations; Essays and Essay Writing; Résumé Writing; Common Application – process and procedures; Scholarships and Financial Aid. The course will be comprised of lectures, group discussion and small group work.  Assignments will be given. Students will be expected to be on time and attend all classes.

College Application Completion & Essay Writing

Enhancing Reading Comprehension

Description:
Saint Thomas Academy students will be taught comprehension strategies to support them as they read their assigned summer reading.  The students will read the assigned book (outside of class), participate in class discussion, answer essay questions, and build comprehension skills.

Description:
This course is designed to assist struggling writers in developing their reasoning and writing skills, in order to better serve them in the upcoming school year.  This class will break down the writing process into concise, manageable steps, that even a struggling writer can use to find success in their written work.  If you have had problems in the past with writing and are looking to better your skills moving into the next year, look no further because this course is for you.

Description:
This course is designed to develop writing skills through critical analysis.  Writing analysis essays is a large part of the Saint Thomas Academy curriculum and helps students strengthen their ideas and opinions by making connections and supporting their claims with irrefutable evidence.  This course is aimed toward students who have satisfactory or exceptional writing skills and are looking to further develop or maintain these skills over the summer months.
