Alumni Association Board President - Greg Walsh '86

Greg Walsh ‘86 assumed the presidency of the Alumni Association for this upcoming year. The Commander of the Crack Drill Squad his senior year and presently the Founding Partner of the law firm Walsh & Gaertner (along with Mark Gaertner ‘85), Walsh said he was always aware of the Alumni Association, but grew to a heightened appreciation for the work it does once his son Patrick ‘19 entered his freshman year in the fall of 2015. Thitherto, Walsh only knew of their work for fellow alumni. Once he became an Academy parent himself, Walsh saw the good things the alumni association did for parents and felt impelled to take part in the organization itself. He joined the alumni board in 2015 and after a year as secretary and another year as vice president, Walsh accepted the presidency which, perhaps providentially, aligned with his second son, Colin’s (‘21) senior year. With COVID, Walsh inherited a bad hand; a 16 against a face card, but that has only intensified his drive to turn this turmoil into something terrific. His main goal is to increase active alumni involvement via committees. He hopes that getting previously untapped alumni to participate in committees for individual projects which interest them will communicate to them that they can still help the association’s mission without feeling the need to fulfill the time-consuming obligations of a board member. Mr. Walsh’s pride in the Academy is palpable. He wants to get alumni on campus as soon as it is safe to do so. He feels that direct contact between alumni and campus creates a robust alumni association which naturally acts as a steward to a robust Academy. They make sure STA stays STA so multigenerational families like the Walshes can remain the norm, and never the exception. The Saint Thomas Academy Community proudly expresses its optimism for the fruits to bear from Mr. Walsh’s upcoming term.
