Saint Thomas Academy has named Reed Hornung its new director of athletics and activities, effective Oct. 11. Hornung, currently director of athletics and activities for Roseville Area Schools, has an extensive resume of sports and activities administration experience with large school districts, at the collegiate level and a season of NFL experience.
Hornung has been a director of athletics and activities for seven years and currently oversees 27 varsity sports, more than 60 activities and clubs and 240 staff members in the 6A Roseville School District. Prior to his current role at Roseville, Hornung was director of athletics for the Sunnyside School District, a large suburban district in Sunnyside, Wash. Under his leadership in Sunnyside, five coaches were named region coach of the year, the football team reached the state playoffs for the first time in 34 years and teams won six conference championships.
Hornung has worked at the collegiate level, as director of player personnel/assistant director of football operations for Utah State University, in player personnel/operations department for the University of Louisville football program, and as a graduate assistant coach for the Brigham Young University football team. He also worked in football operations for the Kansas City Chiefs during the 2014 season.
Hornung has a master’s degree in sports administration from the University of Louisville and a bachelor’s degree in public health from Brigham Young University, where he was a three-year starter on the football team that ranked in the National AP top 25 poll all three years.
